Black Lives Don't Matter to BET?? Why BET Ignored the Million Man March

Were you excited when BET first launched? I was.

Coming from the Caribbean twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, it took a while before our little country got cable television. One of the channels I was most excited about was BET along with MTV. Music was always my passion.

Do you still feel that enthusiasm for BET and its programming in recent years? I don't.

And what do you think of BET's recent statement about its refusal to air the Million Man March 20 year reunion held in Washington, D.C. on October…

VibeOlogy - My New Music Podcast on Blackan Radio, Japan

Hi Friends,

I've been wanting to do a music podcast for a while now, to promote the great independent artists I have discovered over the years and to introduce more and more people to the gorgeous music coming out of my homeland, Trinidad and Tobago.

Finally, here it is! Thanks to Blackan Radio, Japan, for hosting the show. Blackan has been a great champion of independent music by foreign artists in Japan, as well as a big supporter of my music and my albums, Rose, with indigo jam unit, and my solo album…

Lost

Remember the thrill of receiving a letter or a postcard in the mail? I mean the mail box outside of your house or apartment.

Remember the warm glow you felt when you heard the voice of a loved one on the other end of the telephone line?

Better yet, remember the smile on that person's face as you met each other and shared a heartfelt hug?

What about the contentment of curling up with a favorite book, unwilling to budge or be distracted until you got to the very end and learned of the fates of the characters…

Happy Mother's Day 2015!!!!

Empress - Happy Mother's Day!!! (by Alicia Saldenha

When I was a child, I sang this to my mother.
My teachers taught it to the class at our Catholic primary school.
I thought that it was beautiful and that it captured everything I wanted to say to the wonderful, strong, caring and nurturing lady who worked so hard to take care of me.

Fractalicious - My Digital Art

AlienOwl (by Alicia Saldenha)

Hi Guys,

I hope you are all well and having a good weekend. I've had a busy week and yesterday I traveled to Gifu, Japan, to sing at a party. So this is my first opportunity to share my new interest with you.

A few weeks ago I discovered a website dedicated to visual art and literature called Deviant Art. Browsing the galleries for pieces that I could possibly use for cover art for my upcoming music, I came across a genre of digital art called Fractal Art.

A fractal is a natural…

New Year, New Look...

Alicia Saldenha - LoveAlicia.com

  Hi Friends,

I hope you are enjoying the new look of the website. It has been given a long-overdue make-over.

Feel free to browse, listen to some music, watch some videos and help support this endeavour by purchasing an album or some singles on iTunes or CD Baby. Musicians, especially independent musicians, cannot live on listens alone. We really do need your support. So please buy a CD and be sure to attend the next show. I'll be very happy to see you.

If you're in Japan…

Blogger Interrupted....

I just realized that my last blog post on this site was almost a year ago. How did that happen?? I had such good intentions...

A lot of my activity seems to be divided between Facebook and Twitter. My blog has suffered as a result.

Here is my new attempt to blog more regularly....

Press - Alicia Saldenha on Sisters with Beauty

I was very honored and pleased to be invited to do an interview with Sisters with Beauty, a hot new blog about natural hair and beauty based in the United States. If you've seen my photos, from the past braids and dreadlocks to the present fro, you'll know that natural hair is a passion of mine. So I was very happy and excited to do the interview.

Like me, Diana Ramsey, founder of the blog, is passionate about what she does and very dedicated. I wanted to be a part of her growing online presence as well…
